Deep dive into the heart of Guane Territory

Experiencing trail running on a grandiose scale is precisely what the Chicamocha Canyon Race (CCR) offers an extraordinary event that, through its 14th edition, has established itself as a must-do gathering in Latin America. Winding through ancestral trails, remnants of the Guane heritage, and the spectacular scenery of the Santander department in Colombia, this event seamlessly merges athletic exploration with tourist escape. Featuring demanding race formats ranging from a half-marathon to the formidable 100-mile ultra, the course crossed seven iconic municipalities stretching from San Gil to Barichara, renowned as one of the most beautiful villages in Colombia.

At the Core of the Effort: An Extraordinary Vertical Challenge

As a trail runner, fair warning: the Chicamocha Canyon Race shows no mercy and packs a serious punch! With nearly 1,000 runners registered from 21 countries, the peloton had to tame the rugged trails and harsh thermal variations of this South American giant. Whether lining up for the Half-Marathon (24K), the HOKA Marathon (46K), the technical 80K format (or the couples category), or the daunting flagship 100 Millas (166 km) event serving as the first Colombia 100 Miles Cupev ery single stride must be earned across technical descents and dizzying climbs carved out of ancient stone royal paths. Here, pacing, self-reliance, and an iron mindset are the only keys to crossing the finish line after a true initiatory journey deep inside the canyon.

Sports & Travel: The perfect combination in Colombia

Combining a major sporting challenge with discovering a destination rich in culture and breathtaking landscapes is the exact promise of a tailor-made trip to Colombia. This is precisely the experience lived by Andrea, one of my clients, who shares her adventure:

“Laurence and her team were of invaluable help in organizing our trip and throughout our entire adventure. Attentive to our wishes, they provided us with numerous recommendations on accommodation, restaurants, activities, and transportation, as well as a fantastic, detailed travel guide. We had a wonderful stay during our first visit to Colombia and highly recommend Colombia Nice Travel for your future trips!”

Whether you come as an athlete to push your limits at the bottom of the canyon or as a supporter to cheer and explore, the region offers total immersion amidst mountains, rivers, and local traditions.

Prepare for the 2027 Edition: 15 Years of History

The organizers have already unveiled the dates for the next edition. To celebrate its 15th anniversary, the Chicamocha Canyon Race 2027 will take place from June 4 to 7, 2027. It is the ideal opportunity to start planning your next great sporting and travel adventure today.

Once on site, you won’t be navigating on your own: Ruben, my partner and an active member of the French-speaking organizing team, will be there to assist participants and welcome the international community.
